Are you a caring, experienced nurse, paramedic or other allied healthcare professional looking for a change or additional hours, and interested in working in a unique, CQC-rated OUTSTANDING, service?

We are recruiting additional people to join our very friendly team of out-of-hours field healthcare professionals to work from two sites in Shropshire, seeing patients in clinic, on home visits and carrying out telephone triage, on a bank basis.

Shropdoc is the out-of-hours provider for Shropshire and Powys. We are a not-for-profit co-operative and have centres across the two counties. The roles for which we are recruiting are based in Telford and Shrewsbury, are needed to provide cover during evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays, and attract 30% or 60% uplift to the basic hourly rate depending on the time and day worked.

Shropdoc’s mission is to keep the patient at the heart of all that we do. We aim to achieve excellence in the care we offer to our patients, providing a safe and high-quality service that is easily accessible. We are well-established, having been in operation for over 25 years, and we have a reputation that will make you proud to say you are part of our team.

Our field urgent care practitioners assess and treat patients booked in to our clinics, perform telephone triage for patients referred to us by the NHS 111 service, and carry out home visits when necessary. Home visits are done in one of our distinctive liveried ‘Shropdoc’ cars, with a driver provided. We supply all equipment and PGD medicines. Patient records can be completed remotely on one of our laptops, using the Adastra clinical record system.

We are particularly interested in hearing from healthcare professionals with an emergency, urgent or primary care background, however training and development is provided and we are more interested in people with the right attitude and approach to work rather than specific experience. Experience of or a qualification in physical assessment are essential.

Critical thinking and decision-making skills are a key part of the role, working with other healthcare professionals to find the best care pathways for our patients. We need you to be reliable, dependable, willing to learn and take up a new challenge – we need you to turn up regularly and muck in! Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills are a must, as is the confidence to work autonomously and make decisions without direct supervision once trained. That said, support from senior clinicians will never be far away when you’re here.

What we can offer you:

  • NHS Pensions, Free Health Care Plans, 25 Days Annual leave plus BH, Full NHS Discounts, Onsite parking, and access to corporate benefits.
  • A salary equivalent to Agenda for Change band 7 or 8a (depending on qualifications and experience), plus 30% uplift for evenings, nights and Saturdays, and 60% uplift for Sundays and Bank Holidays.
  • Flexible, ad-hoc shifts, with web booking system
